Moody Crystal Ballroom Wedding in Somerville
Aarika and Walid fell in love with the elegant Crystal Ballroom as their wedding venue! These Somerville residents wanted a wedding that was unique and fun while staying close to home and local. Living right down the street from the Crystal Ballroom in Davis Square, they loved the idea of keeping their vendors as local as possible, and I was honored to be selected as their florist!
The Crystal Ballroom, located on the second floor of the Somerville Theater, is an iconic and historic building. Originally built in 1914, it has hosted celebrations of all kinds for decades. After closing in the 1980s, it was repurposed in 1996 into two cinemas as part of the Somerville Theater’s renovation and expansion. During the pandemic, the space was revived and transformed into the Crystal Ballroom we know today. It now serves as a music venue and event space.

While discussing the vision for their flowers, my clients wanted to play into the elegant vibe of Crystal Ballroom, while adding a dash of moodiness. They wanted the flowers to feel organic and heavy on texture. We wanted to play up the grandness of getting married on stage by having a luxurious deconstructed arch framing them. While playing into the elegance and luxury of the day, they also wanted their wedding to feel like an intimate party among their closest friends and family.
Aarika and Walid got ready at home, inviting their closest friends over in the morning to all get ready together. They did take a moment to have one-on-one time together at their favorite bar, Spoke Wine Bar, before walking hand in hand through Davis Square to the Crystal Ballroom. As they walked into the venue their names were highlighted in the Marquee!
Crystal Ballroom Wedding Floral Design
The personal flowers for this wedding were super unique and exciting. For Walid, instead of a traditional boutonniere, I designed a lush floral lapel that became the talk of the night! Aarika chose to forgo a traditional bouquet and opted for a reverse floral crown/hair comb design, allowing her to keep flowers on her all night long.
The decor embraced moody, romantic tones of burgundy and dusty rose, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, the day was filled with so much joy and warmth.
Walid and Aarika were friends long before they started dating, and the love of their friends and community was evident throughout their wedding. The entire day radiated joy, making it a celebration not only of Aarika and Walid but also of the close-knit friendships that surrounded them.
